Open The Gift!!

Sisters,

We have recently received such a special gift - it's the book "Daughters In Our Kingdom". Have you opened your gift??

This book contains testimonies, experiences, teaching moments, and stories about our sisters in the Church. It is meant to inspire us, to uplift us, to support us, and to increase our connection with our Savior and each other.

Take a moment and "open the gift"! I think you will want to keep reading more and more.

Here's a link to a 2 minute intro to "Daughters In Our Kingdom" by our Relief Society General President, Sis.Beck. We all have 2 minutes, right?

http://lds.org/relief-society/daughters-in-my-kingdom/about-the-book?lang=eng#modal=the-gift-daughters-in-my-kingdom

I hope you are uplifted and your hearts filled as you read this beautiful book.

With love,

Kathryn Jolley

Super Saturday - Sept. 17th

Our ward Super Saturday activity will be on Saturday, Sept. 17th, from 9:00am - 1:00pm at our church building.

We will be offering 3 classes and loads of crafts, plus some yummy food and a chance to hang out with your friends & neighbors! It's going to be a great activity!

All money due will need to be given to Yvonne Rodabough by Monday, Sept. 12th.

Here's a quick overview of the classes and the crafts we'll be offering:

PHOTOSHOP FOR THE HOME USER - no cost

Br. Jolley will be teaching two 1-hour classes on PhotoShop, beginning skills at 10:00am & intermediate skills at 11:00am. He'll introduce PhotoShop, teach the Top 5 home uses, & give you some quick tips in the beginning skills class. He'll move on to intermediate-advanced processes during the second hour.

After the classes are done, he'll be staying around if you want to continue to work/learn, ask questions, or practice the skills you've just learned. If you have a laptop with PhotoShop, feel free to bring it so you can work along with his lessons.

** He'd love to know what your specific interests are, if any, for this class. He wants to focus his time on the things that are of interest to you. So if you have a specific skill you'd like to learn or a question feel free to email him or call him anytime. He'll be sure to work your needs/interests into his skills lessons. rjolley@cleanlinemedia.com **

CAKE DECORATING - $6.00 (choose a 6" round 2-layer cake OR 8 cupcakes)

Saundra Gall will be teaching us how to decorate our cake or cupcakes so we can all look like professionals! :) Her class will begin at 9:00am. You choose a layer cake or 8 cupcakes and she will bring the frostings, tools & fun extras for decorating.

She is SO talented! Here are some pictures of her work:

Marty Watts will be teaching this class. You can choose to make -

A door hanging:

A laying table arrangement:

A small container arrangement:

or a large (tall) container arrangement:

A note from Marty:

If you are interested in one of these arrangements, please spent some time during the next few weeks looking for dried flowers, weeds, seeds and grasses to use in your arrangements. Many are in your yard, along the road or along the marshland. (ie., oats, wheat, cattails, corn tassels, leaves, grasses, etc.)

Remember to bring the things you've gathered plus any silk and/or dried flowers you would like to use in your arrangements along with the container you would like to use.

PAINTED CRAFTS

There will be lots of adorable painted/modpodged crafts available. You will need to pay for these in advance & bring your own scrapbook paper that day. Tables will be available with room to work on your crafts.

5th Sunday Message - "Employment & Preparedness"

Our Bishopric turned the 5th Sunday message over to Br. & Sis. Murdock who taught us about the LDS Employment Center & the opportunities available to us there. Br. & Sis. Murdock have recently been called to serve in the Employment Center.

As our bishop said at the end of the lesson - "It's about preparedness." We can always educate and prepare ourselves and we are blessed to have such a great resource so close.

Here is the link to download the Murdocks' lesson:
http://www.cleanlinemedia.com/JordanRiverWard/RS/2011_07_31_BishopricMsg_Employment.zip

And now, an apology -
I think I hit the record button accidentally during my lesson this Sunday, August 7th, shutting off the mp3 recorder. The recording I got cuts off after just 7 minutes. (A perfect example of my technological ineptitude, to be honest)

SO - we don't have a link for Sunday's lesson. I'm so sorry about that.

Please take time to read from your Gospel Principles manual, Chapter 36 "The Family Can Be Eternal". There are some great insights & suggestions in the lesson.
- a very embarassed, Kathryn Jolley

Presidency Message for August

For the month of August the Theme for Relief Society is: To Be Smart and To Learn.

Heavenly Father has given us a wonderful world in which to live, learn, and progress. Our life on earth is a schooling process, during which we are to seek knowledge and understanding of the things of God and the world around us.

“Isn’t it wonderful how many interesting things there are around to be seen, heard, felt, learned and enjoyed! “We have only to open the ‘many windows’ to our soul—to happily employ our eyes and ears and intuition, to use our sense and our senses and our ‘inward vision.’ We can furnish our minds with interesting pictures to look at, inspiring things to hear, happy memories to live with” (Marion D. Hanks, Improvement Era, Oct. 1964, 883).

As members of the Church, we have three important centers of learning: the home, the school, and the Church. Each of these offers opportunities for continued learning. Learning requires constant effort. It is far too easy for us to become mentally lazy when we do not study.

Heavenly Father expects us to use our capacity to learn for building our own lives and for doing good to others. The Savior has commanded us to become perfect, as He and our Father in Heaven are. To become like them, we must learn and grow in the knowledge of the truth.

Learning and growing are so very important. Think of something specific you can do to continue learning. Plan your time so that you can learn something new and worthwhile each day. Plan a way to increase opportunities for learning in your home. Discuss the importance of learning in a family home evening. Help your children prepare a plan for their education.

We as a Relief Society Presidency want you to know that we love you and learn from each of you every day.

With Love,
Jennifer Westwood, Kathryn Jolley, Yvonne Rodabough, and Breann Farlow
