5th Sunday Message - "Employment & Preparedness"

Our Bishopric turned the 5th Sunday message over to Br. & Sis. Murdock who taught us about the LDS Employment Center & the opportunities available to us there. Br. & Sis. Murdock have recently been called to serve in the Employment Center.

As our bishop said at the end of the lesson - "It's about preparedness." We can always educate and prepare ourselves and we are blessed to have such a great resource so close.

Presidency Message for August

For the month of August the Theme for Relief Society is: To Be Smart and To Learn.

Heavenly Father has given us a wonderful world in which to live, learn, and progress. Our life on earth is a schooling process, during which we are to seek knowledge and understanding of the things of God and the world around us.

“Isn’t it wonderful how many interesting things there are around to be seen, heard, felt, learned and enjoyed! “We have only to open the ‘many windows’ to our soul—to happily employ our eyes and ears and intuition, to use our sense and our senses and our ‘inward vision.’ We can furnish our minds with interesting pictures to look at, inspiring things to hear, happy memories to live with” (Marion D. Hanks, Improvement Era, Oct. 1964, 883).

As members of the Church, we have three important centers of learning: the home, the school, and the Church. Each of these offers opportunities for continued learning. Learning requires constant effort. It is far too easy for us to become mentally lazy when we do not study.

Heavenly Father expects us to use our capacity to learn for building our own lives and for doing good to others. The Savior has commanded us to become perfect, as He and our Father in Heaven are. To become like them, we must learn and grow in the knowledge of the truth.

Learning and growing are so very important. Think of something specific you can do to continue learning. Plan your time so that you can learn something new and worthwhile each day. Plan a way to increase opportunities for learning in your home. Discuss the importance of learning in a family home evening. Help your children prepare a plan for their education.

We as a Relief Society Presidency want you to know that we love you and learn from each of you every day.

We enjoyed a great lesson by Saundra Gall on Sunday! Our Stake Relief Society Presidency was visiting & Saundra was so calm (great job, Saundra!). She reminded us to not only develop our talents, but to look carefully & identify some hidden talents we may have. She reminded us that just because we can't perform it on a stage, it doesn't mean it's not a talent!

We were grateful for the sisters that participated & shared their talents with us. It's always great to learn something new about our friends.

Thank you to all those that attended the Neighborhood Ladies Ice Cream Social!! We had a great time and learned a lot of new interesting facts about each of us. Hopefully you found out something fun about one (or more) of your ward sisters that you have in common & can enjoy together.

We will also be starting our small interest groups in the next few weeks. More information to follow. Get excited! These groups will be great!
